How Often Do False Positives Or Negatives Occur With Biometric Authentication?

I know that biometric authentication is pretty secure, but I also know that no system is perfect. How often do false positives or false negatives occur with this type of authentication? I am thinking of switching to some sort of biometric system instead of the password based system that we currently have now, or in addition to it possibly, in order to make things a bit secure. But I think if there were too many false negatives I would get a lot of complaints, which I would like to avoid if at all possible. Which is the most accurate system?  What are some of the main advantages of biometric authentication?
